20. January 2011: Restaurant Raven

After a great selection of diferent starters on a plate the main dish – filet from the angus beef on baby spinache with truffled polenta diamonds (EUR 24.90) – was as delicious as expected. The beef filet was absolutely tender, cocked exactly to the point (medium as ordered) and the sauce which came with it and the baby spinach was really tasteful. Only the truffeled polenta diamonds didn’t taste much differently than ordinary polenta – you couldn’t really taste much of the truffles (which I personally prefer anyway but was still surprising as it was explicitly mentioned in the menu).

The desert selection was served on a big plate with a lot of different kinds of deserts which tasted pretty good all in all. Only the blueberry mousse was somewhat weird as a desert as it had pepper corns in it – I don’t know if it was on purpose (I suppose so) but it didn’t really taste optimal.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is really nice as it is modernly furnished and nicely designed. Also, for a change the restaurant finds an appropriate mixture of light and darkness which makes you feel comfortable.

What is only limitedly optimal is the service – whereas I’ve been lucky as everything I’ve ordered was brought the way I wanted it, some colleagues of mine at the table weren’t that lucky: One ordered the filet rare and got it medium and additionally got the wrong sidedish. Furthermore, the second filet he got wasn’t really perfect either as the inside of the filet was still cold. Admittedly, it’s difficult to make a filet rare in a perfect way but still, that’s close to not acceptable. In addition, the cockiness of the waiter was massively annoying.

Still, all in all the dishes were absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is really nice and the service is good (as I said, personally I was lucky and got nothing to complain about) but to be fair one has to saythat the price is probably not too low (I can only judge on the filet as about the rest I don’t know the price). In any case, if you’re around that area I can definitely recommend you to go to the Restaurant Raven and enjoy a nice dinner with delicious dishes in a great atmosphere.
