Lovely view over St. Gallen and outstanding service: Restaurant Falkenburg (10. July 2019)
Although I had spent about 8 years in St. Gallen, I somehow had never heard of the ‘Falkenburg’ but it turns out that I have really missed out on something. It is, admittedly, a bit remote and not that easy to reach, but it is definitely worth the walk or the little drive up the hill as the view from the top all over the city of St. Gallen is absolutely lovely! And not only that, the atmosphere when you get to sit outside in the sun, is marvelous. What supports this perception strongly, is the fact that the waitress is very competent, attentive, and friendly.
As a starter I went for the “Andalusian gazpacho” (CHF 11.00) which was quite a thick version of a gazpacho but actually one I liked quite a lot.
As a main course, I had the “beef paillard with Café de Paris, French fries and market vegetables” (CHF 38.00) which was good too. The meat was – obviously – thin and very enjoyable in terms of flavor. Of course, the intense but very rich herb butter helped a lot as well!
All in all, the Falkenburg is kind of one of my new favorites as the place is lovely, the view is nice, the food is good, the prices are fair, and the service is exquisite!
