Absolutely delicious and mouth-watering dishes: Restaurant Hopfenau (14. August 2019)

The Hopfenau has been on my to do list for quite a while but somehow I had never managed to pay the place a visit. Finally, it was time. The place itself (at least when you sit outside) isn’t all that exciting and amazing as it is located at a corner of a rather busy street. However, the place is in thus far nice as the waiters are super friendly and welcoming and make sure you feel comfortable. Given we were a group of four and had a quite funny evening, it wasn’t much of an issue to have a longer waiting time but frankly speaking, if that wasn’t the case, it took a bit too long until the initial orders were taken up, respectively the first course was served.

I went for the “fried duck egg (served on pea puree with roasted onions, Pommery mustard aioli and chili dust)” (CHF 21.50) which was absolutely mouth-watering! The combination of flavors and consistencies was just absolutely outstanding.

As a main course, I went for the “buffello forellato (boiled filet from a water buffalo from Aargau (prepared for 12 hours in the stove) served on smoked trout sauce garnished with spring onions and radish)” (CHF 37.50) which was basically a re-interpretation of a vitello tonnato. And I must say that I quite liked it.

Overall, I liked the Hopfenau a lot for its creativity of re-interpreting dishes we all know newly and making sure they are actually tasty and provide you with more than the standard experience. It makes absolutely sense to book your table in advance (especially if you want to get one of the limited tables outside) and to take your time when going there.
