28. January 2011: Ristorante da Giovanni
Regular Italian dishes for an acceptable price describes the dishes you get at the Ristorante da Giovanni best. It is some mixture between a restaurant and a self-service place as you have to go to the counter in order to get your dish.
We had the pasta of the day which was two kinds of tortellini with tomato sauce (CHF 20.90). They didn’t taste bad but also they were not too appealing. In the end, just regular pasta with regular tomato sauce. Eatable but that’s it – really no surprise.
The place is pretty nice though as it is spacious, full of light and the white furniture somehow gives it a classy atmosphere. The tables and the chairs are put together so randomly you are not going to be able to determine the underlying pattern – that messes the whole thing a bit up.
The counter tenders are friendly and helpful but not too quick in preparing the food. The price is okay for Zurich but is still somehow pretty high considering it’s just pasta you get. All in all, if you’re shopping in the Oerlikon Coop then it’s okay to make a quick stop there and have a warm meal, otherwise, it’s definitely not worth going there for the dishes.
In its vicinity is the max Lounge. The Ristorante da Giovanni is easily reachable from the station Oerlikon which is reachable by various means of transportation.
