30. January 2011: Restaurant Rheinfelder Bierhaus “De bluetig Duume”
Looking for a restaurant which is open on Sundays and has a Lunch Menu? The Rheinfelder Bierhaus “De bluetig Duume” [the bloody thumb] is definitely the right place to go. The lunch is served real quick and is also okay in taste. The starter was a clear soup with vegetables. Good to warm you up when it’s freaking cold outside but otherwise nothing special really.
The main dish was “Escalope in cream sauce with noodles and vegetables” which was a sound meal. It’s big enough so you’re full after eating it. It tastes okay, the sauce needs a bit more salt and pepper but is otherwise fine. The vegetables on the other hand are not too tasty really but still okay.
The whole menu costs CHF 21.50 which is pretty okay considering the fact that you usually don’t even get a main dish alone for that price in Zurich. The water is also decent in price being CHF 4.20 for a bottle. All in all, the food is okay but what is really great about the Rheinfelder Bierhaus is the fact that it’s open on Sundays and actually offers a lunch menu then!
The atmosphere is somewhat nice as it is really an old place (which is respectively cold – not really cold but nothing close to warm) and the combination of the old wooden tables and chairs and the walls make it somewhat comfortable.
The waiter who runs the place basically alone is really quick and direct. You can’t call him unfriendly really but I wouldn’t call him friendly either. He is – let us say – really correct, quick and serves you in a efficient manner.
All in all, the Rheinfelder Bierhaus “De bluetig Duume” is the perfect place to go on Sundays if you’re looking for a filling tasty meal for a good price.
