Definitely hyped and not worth the fuzz: Restaurant Simon’s Steakhouse (24. October 2019)
The Restaurant Simon’s Steakhouse is listed as one of the best steakhouses of Zurich and I’m not sure I share that impression. In any case, I had booked about 6-8 weeks before and I was already positively surprised that they had managed to find the reservation (which I have had experienced differently in other restaurants). Once seated, the waiter came and attended us quite swiftly. I decided to go for the “lime coconut soup with grilled prawns” (CHF 14.00) which was a bit of a disappointment as the soup didn’t taste like too much and the ‘prawns’ (in plural) was really just one!
They did not really have their service aligned as first, we got served something which wasn’t intended for our table and when pointing that out, the waiter in charge, didn’t really bother. Until the waiter who had taken up the order, would intervene and send the food to the other table. A few minutes later, the right dishes had arrived.
The “U.S. Bife de Ancho (250gr)” (CHF 57.00) served with “leaf spinach” (CHF 7.00) and “Country Fries” (CHF 7.00) plus “Sauce Béarnaise “(CHF 3.00) shows already a bit of something when it comes to the prices here. For a proper main dish which includes a sauce and side dishes, you end up paying CHF 74.00.
Now, I’m not having an issue paying CHF 74.00 for a main with sides, however, the meat wasn’t anything special really. It was good, no question, but for getting the ‘label’ of “best steakhouse in Zurich”, I was wondering quite a bit how they got that.
So, all in all, the Simon’s Steakhouse was a good experience but not necessarily one I have to repeat right away. The atmosphere is nice and vivid, the service does a decent job but the food is not good enough for what you pay for it. Not saying it’s bad, but it’s not worth the money you pay for it.
