7. February 2011: Restaurant Namaste

| February 8, 2011 | 2 Comments

Decent Indian dishes for lunch for a very good price is what you get at the Restaurant Namaste. As a part of the menu you get a salad as a starter. The yoghurt sauce which comes with the salad is okay, nothing overwhelming but not bad either.

As a main dish I’ve had “Chicken Jalfrezi” (Description in the menu: Tender chicken meat with onions, tomatoes and green chili) (EUR 6.90) which was accompanied by a large plate of rice (for three people). You have to mix the two together and I must admit that the sauce of the chicken dish was tasty. I can’t really say if it was any better or worse than other Indian dishes because I just haven’t eaten enough Indian food in my life in order to be able to properly compare it but it was definitely good.

The Naam bread (EUR 1.90) is pretty good too and is just perfect to clean the bowl with the chicken and “liberate” it from its sauce. All in all, the dishes are cheap, good in taste and big enough so you don’t have to go home starving.

The interior is almost a bit overly decorated but somehow still nice. Full of colours, pictures, Indian stuff – nice but really close to too much decoration. The waiters are friendly and helpful all in all and also rather quick. The prices are more than decent (not to say low) and more than fair for what you get.

Overall, the Restaurant Namaste is a great place to have a quick lunch – nothing outstanding or special but a decent meal for a fair price in a nice but colourful environment.

I recommend another Indian restaurant in Munich: Swagat in Bogenhausen, close to Prinzregententheater.

Traditional Indian food, very tasty with a rural touch, I’d say. I’ve been there often when I lived in Munich. But be prepared to wait a bit before seated, even if you have a reservation.
