13. November 2009: Restaurant Latino in the Astoria Hotel

| November 14, 2009 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Latino is part of a bunch of restaurants owned and run by the group around the Astoria Hotel in Lucerne. It’s located around 750 meters from the main station in Lucerne and easily accessible by foot. Parking lots  as well as some parking houses can be found around the streets – still, it’s recommendable to plan a bit time to find a parking lot.

Once you’re entering the restaurant, you’re immediately and warmly welcomed by the waiter. You’re brought to your table (in case you reserved one which is recommendable for Friday and Saturday evenings). The waiting time until you actually get the menu to choose from is a bit long as well as the time until you’re ask for what you want to drink and till the drinks are then actually brought to your table.

On the other hand, it must be outlined that the waiters are extraordinarily friendly and helpful at any time during the stay at the restaurant. Big plus for that, but the efficiency leaves soemthing to be desired.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is somehow confusing because the’yre able to actually make a combination between sterility and coziness – sterility because of the interior design and coziness because of the light which they play with perfectly.

What is really persuasive is the quality of the dishes served. Especially the beef filet “ojo de agua” produced by Dieter Meier in Argentina is probably one of the most tender beef filets I’ve ever enjoyed. It’s definitely worth to try and what comes more is the price-performance ratio. 180 gr of ojo de agua beef filet for CHF 43 only!

1st course: Smoked salmon

Latino22nd course: Beef filet “ojo de agua” with home-made noodles and Café de Paris sauce

Latino33rd course: Home-made icecream (in the picture: raspberry & aloe vera)

The Latino is a very good restaurant where you should definitely try the beef filet “ojo de agua”. Just hope the service will be a bit more efficient. Reservation recommended.
