Atmospheric, tasty, but on the expensive side: Restaurant Zenzakan (29. January 2020)

| March 3, 2020 | 0 Comments

The Zenzakan is a location I haven’t been to for quite a while so it was time to give it a shot again. Booking in advance seemed crucial as the place was rather crowded for a Wednesday night. I went for the “Zenzational Zenzakan Zashimi “Zmokey Ztyle on the rocks (sashimi variation served spectacularly on ice and fog)” (EUR 39.90) which was a surprisingly nice selection of sashimi. Now, I’m very sure that my assessment would change after vacation in Japan. In any case, the sashimi was great and also rather generous. The “show effect” of the fog (dried ice) was actually nice too.

Of course, the whole dish was complemented (and improved in experience) with the wasabi and some dipping soy sauces.

As a main I went for “delicious duck on red Thai curry and rice” (EUR 29.90) – and I must say that it was great. Firstly, because the duck was actually plentiful and secondly because it was also super tasty in terms of flavor and intensity. The little “paper hat” for the joint wasn’t necessary – else, great dish and definitely recommended!

The place is nice in terms of interior design and atmosphere but you can see that it had its peak a couple of years back when investment banking was still at its peak performance level where everything was expendable. In any case, the Zenzakan is a safe place with regards to the quality of the food and definitely enjoyable overall.
