An udon noodle restaurant full with locals: Restaurant Tsurutontan Soemoncho (9. March 2020)

| April 2, 2020 | 0 Comments

Dotonburi is the neighborhood in Osaka which is hip and there are a lot of food stands and restaurants. The Tsurutontan Seomoncho was a restaurant recommended for Udon noodles and after walking 15+ kilometers that day already, I was happy it was open at 3pm. I started with “Tuna Sushi Rolls with truffle mayonnaise” (580 Yen) which were good but you couldn’t taste much of the truffle mayonnaise.

The “Beef Loin Curry Udon Noodles” (1’580 Yen) which I had as a main were served within a few minutes after the order and the bowl was tremendous! I was truly surprised how big the dish is and how many tiny people were devouring that bowl! It took me quite a bit to finish the whole thing which was great in terms of flavor but the meat quality wasn’t entirely to my liking as the meat was quite fatty which isn’t really something I like. However, the udon bowl was absolutely tasty.

The place looks very traditional (or at least what I imagine to be traditional) and you find all the necessary spices to pump up your dish. Not really necessary in my view but in case you feel like you want to do that, you definitely have the chance to do so.

It is very helpful if you have an app like “Google Translate” on your phone and some data (or WiFi) as the level of English isn’t exactly outstanding to be honest. They are super friendly and helpful but without some means of translation (or you speaking Japanese) you’ll be kind of lost (or you point at the pictures of what you want to eat).

All in all, I can recommend the Tsurutontan Soemoncho as it is a nice restaurant which offers tasty dishes in a friendly atmosphere with very friendly staff and it is very fair in price.
