17. February 2011: Restaurant Valentin-Stüberl

The “Brewmaster Schnitzel from the veal, filled with raw ham and camembert, fried, topped with cranberries and backed with cheese with roasted potatoes and salad” (EUR 18.20) [Original name: Braumeisterschnitzel von der Kalbsoberschale, gefüllt mit rohem Schinken und Camembert, paniert, in Butterschmalz gebraten, mit Preiselbeeren bestrichen und mit Emmentaler überbacken, dazu Röstkartoffeln und Salat] is really tasty. The salad you get as a starter is pretty regular but the salad sauce which has a mustarde taste is quite tasty.

The Braumeisterschnitzel itself is a good portion of meat and the combination of the cranberries and the cheese on top give the Schnitzel the little extra thing which makes it absolutely tasty. The roastes potatoes on the other hand were nothing good. Although they were roasted they were way too greasy and therefore not really appealing.

The beer is good and cheap (Paulaner Hell 0,5L EUR 3.70) and the owner which is also the waiter is Bavarian as you expect a Bavarian to be meaning seems to fulfill the outside perception of Bavaria: Rough, unfriendly, doesn’t want to interact with you when you’re from outside. Also, when we asked him at the end if we could pay by card his answer was “no” but in a very unpolite way.

The prices are quite high for Germany but still, for what you actually get, the price is absolutely decent. The atmosphere of the Valentin-Stüberl is somewhat cozy but not too appealing. The place is a typical Bavarian restaurant where you can mostly find locals and practically no tourists. It’s nothing fancy, special or really nice, but it has its own appealing effect.
