Absolutely atmospheric location and good dishes: Restaurant Villa Schweizerhof (19. September 2020)

| October 18, 2020 | 0 Comments

It is years ago since I’ve been to the Villa Schweizerhof which back then was called “Villa Häusermatte” (see review) and I must say, I liked it back then and also this time, it was definitely a great experience. Once you’re seated, some bread with olive oil is served.

Once you’ve ordered, the menu starts with a little amuse bouche, in this case a “beef carpaccio with pumpernickel” …

… which was a good but simple start into the evening.

The “five course menu” (CHF 112.00) starts with a “variation of salmon from Lostallo, zucchini, chick peas, cottage cheese” (usually CHF 26.00) and I must say it looked absolutely pretty and was also delicious to start.

The “cold sweet corn soup with Villa chili, popcorn and pork belly” (usually CHF 15.00) was refreshing and surprisingly interesting. Especially the fact that I liked the popcorn (which I usually don’t) was surprising to me. But I did.

The “Swiss char filet served in parchment with Mediterranean vegetables and Villa herbs” (usually CHF 44.00) wasn’t easy to unwrap …

… and didn’t look too appealing (as in: rather messy) but was tasty and a great combination of flavors and consistencies.

As a main, they served “flanksteak from Schwyz, fermented garlic, Villa oven potatoes, cabbage salad, seasonal vegetables” (usually CHF 42.00) and I must say, it was delicious. I liked the flanksteak a lot but the side dishes (i.e. the little potatoes and the vegetables) were somehow a bit little for the portion.

The “cheese from the wagon” (usually CHF 16.00) was a nice selection but you would just get something they put together for you and wouldn’t have the chance to pick what you want. To be honest, I get it that in Coronatimes you don’t want to open the wagon but other restaurants are able to do so too and frankly, I would have taken much more intense cheeses. But I suppose you cannot always have what you want.

As a little ‘after dessert’, they served cheese cake …

… which was a welcome and tasty bite to end the dinner.

The place is nice in terms of interior decoration and the service is to a large degree attentive and friendly and make sure you have anything you want. What is a bit of a problem (in my opinion) is the fact that tables are quite close to each other and it gets a bit loud making it difficult to understand everyone at the table. However, the Villa Schweizerhof remains a safe bet for a decent dinner experience when in Lucerne.
