A nice Lebanese food experience: Al Falamanki Café (21. January 2021)
It is two years ago since I’ve last been to the Al Falamnki but I have a fond memory of this place and it was just reinforced upon visiting again. It is one of the places which kind of offers ‘local’ (although technically it’s Lebanese) cuisine. The “hommos with meat & pine nuts” (44 AED) is definitely a favorite of mine as the hommos is smooth and the lamb meat on top really adds to the flavor.
The “grilled halloumi steak (served with figs dipped in sugar syrup)” (44 AED) is great – if you manage to eat it quickly after it’s served. Personally, I wouldn’t need the sugared figs but would be satisfied with the halloumi alone.
The “Al Falamank’s tabbouleh (tabbouleh with special sour grape dressing)” (38 AED) is refreshing and works perfectly to balance off the more intense flavors.
The “lamb cutlets with French fries and grilled veggies” (95 AED) are something I would not necessarily order again. Firstly, the meat isn’t really all that great, i.e., too fatty and strain-y for me, the French fries are stroppy, so there is really nothing which makes me enjoy this particular meal.
Which is absolutely balanced out by other amazing, and much more local dishes like the “Saj Kaskkaval cheese” (30 AED) which is kind of a pizza-style thing with a special cheese – and it’s delicious!
Of course, to not feel too bad about eating all that much, I can always recommend to eat “vegetables”. Definitely a “go”.
What you should also get there is shisha. They make sure it’s fresh and good and that the charcoal is changed on a regular basis. It’s that local that the shisha guy doesn’t even speak English and you have to gesture to make clear what you want. Something I truly like!
