Perfect, local stay-cation food: Restaurant The Grand Brasserie @ Hotel Waldhaus Flims (25. February 2021)

| May 15, 2021 | 0 Comments

These days, if you want to eat out, you are basically forced to do a ‘stay-cation’, so it was time to pay the Hotel Waldhaus Flims a visit. Luckily, they have a few restaurants which offer delicious dishes like the “capuns (root vegetables, fried onions, air-dried Grisons meat)” (CHF 26.00) as a starter which is a local specialty and absolutely enjoyable in terms of flavors and taste.

The “Swiss beef tartare (quail egg, brioche, Belper Knolle cheese)” (CHF 35.00) was surprisingly good (as very often beef tartare doesn’t really satisfy my taste buds) – only the delivery of more toast and butter, for which I had asked right away when the beef tartare was served, took quite a bit of time. Luckily, the dish doesn’t get cold, so it wasn’t a big issue but it’s still somewhat unpleasant if you have to wait for more than 15 minutes to get more toast.

The “caramel ice cream and amarena cherry” (CHF 9.00) was the perfect finish to the evening. Nothing special in terms of dessert but definitely enjoyable.

What is nice about the Grand Brassiere is the view you have onto the little town (~2’600 inhabitants) which is especially pretty during winter nights when the lights are on and everything is kind of white. The atmosphere in the restaurant is also nice and the service does, with the exception of the late toast delivery, a great job to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The prices are, of course, very Swiss but still okay. Only, that I had ordered a bottle of the “SummuS, 2015, Castello Banfi, Montalcino, Siena” (CHF 108.00) and they only had 2016 in stock was a bit of a disappointment and something they should change in their wine menu. All in all, The Grand Brasserie at the Hotel Waldhaus Flims is generally recommendable in terms of food quality, service, and atmosphere.
