Exquisite service and atmosphere – average food: Restaurant Marea Dubai (9. March 2021)

| May 23, 2021 | 0 Comments

Marea has one Michelin star in New York and they expanded to Dubai. And well, they do not have a Michelin star here (for good reason). Now, to be fair, they do a great job here. Especially our waitress was incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive. So big kudos to her.

The evening started with focaccia and a special spread which was absolutely enjoyable and made one gobble down the focaccia within seconds.

The “burrata (burrata, tomato, taggiasca olive, salsa verde)” (115 AED) and the “calamari fritti (lightly battered calamari, lemon, mint, sauce gribiche)” (98 AED) were okay. While the burrata was actually good and enjoyable, the calamari fritti were really just tiny calamari rings with a lot of batter. Not saying that this is not enjoyable but frankly, it’s just like eating crunchy stuff and not really having any calamari there. However, the sauce was tasty which compensated a bit for the lack of actual calamari below the batter.

The “gnocchi (ricotta dumplings, tomatoes, burrata, basil)” (88 AED) were good and overall enjoyable. However, the gnocchi were a bit too mushy for my gusto. But the combination of the burrata and the basil with the tomato sauce made it an enjoyable meal nevertheless.

The petits fours chocolates were the perfect finish to a decent dinner.

To sum it up, the Marea Dubai is lovely in terms of location, in terms of interior design, close to perfect in terms of service, and serves decent meals. However, even though it doesn’t have a Michelin star like its New York original, the association of quality doesn’t quite match the expectation.
