Bring patience, patience, and patience – and enjoy the delicious cuts: Restaurant Nusr-Et Steakhouse Dubai (10. March 2021)

Talking about fancy. Talking about exclusive. And adding pseudo to all of this. If you want to dine at Nusr-Et, make sure you bring one thing – patience! We booked a table for 8pm and were there on time – and had to wait 30 minutes outside. Now, the thing isn’t so much that as the weather is good enough and it’s not like we were in a hurry, but everyone who came had to wait. What’s the concept here if everyone which shows up on time, has to wait? That’s nothing but creating artificial exclusivity. So, let’s say, the start that evening wasn’t really a successful one.

Once you are finally seated and get to order, things become a bit more complicated. The menu didn’t work unless you tried a few times and had to reload for it to finally show up. Once that had happened, they were luckily relatively lucky in taking the order. However, the way they are trying to sell you bigger cuts is a bit annoying. Unless you’re pushing back quite determined, you’ll eventually end up agreeing to a bigger cut.

Once your food arrives, you won’t get to eat it. At least not straight away – first the whole “show element” comes into place and that seems to be a thing for almost every piece of food. Which makes one think why there is so much show for so little food. Finally, when you get the food, it’s – at least (!) – good. The “burrata (300gr) (basil, pesto, mixed heirloom tomato and baby rocket)” (180 AED) and the “beef carpaccio (arugula, parmesan, olive oil dijon mustard, 12-year aged balsamic)” (245 AED) were definitely enjoyable – but not as good as the show would make you think.

The “crispy baby squid (sweet capsicum, tartar sauce, grilled lemon)” (90 AED) was too much crispy and not enough squid for my taste. You’re really just eating batter – not that this is generally bad but it is not really something which is overly enjoyable. The “meat sushi (beef sirloin, avocado, parmesan, soy sauce, potato chips)” (140 AED) was interesting but, unfortunately, not really to my liking since it had kind of a ‘gasoline’ flavor in the end.

Luckily though, although there was an unnecessary show again, the “Ottoman Steak (1100 gr) (thick bone-in rib eye)” (1’200 AED) with “onion flower (tatar sauce)” (80 AED) and “home-made mashed potato (potato, butter, white pepper, salt)” (60 AED) was great. The meat was cooked perfectly medium-rare, tender, and incredibly aromatic. So, I get why people like Nusr-et – because the meat is actually delicious. I don’t get the whole show effect around it to be honest, but the meat is quite exquisite!

And the same was true for the “Istanbul striploin (300gr) (thick strip of sirloin)” (450 AED) with “béchamel spinach (spinach, flour, butter, milk, white onion, salt, white pepper)” (45 AED) which was – in my opinion – even better! To be fair with the staff, once you’re seated, the waiters are actually doing a great job and are swift and make sure you have everything you need more or less at all times.

So, if you don’t mind waiting for quite a bit and are not bothered by the show, I can definitely recommend you to get a good cut of meat here – it’ll make your taste buds dance!
