Definitely a must visit for hot pot – a great surprise where you’d not expect it: Restaurant Uncle 7 (七叔 茶餐厅) (3. June 2021)

Talking about positive surprises! When I heard about the Uncle 7, I was keen to try it. However, to be very fair, at first sight, I was a bit surprised since there were no other guests (which changed throughout the course of the evening) but we still decided to give it a try. As a starter I went for the “Sezuan Soup (spicy, with chicken)” (CHF 4.50) which was served within a few minutes only and was actually very enjoyable.

The “Ha Gao (dumplings filled with shrimps)” (CHF 9.50) on the other hand were not so much my thing. Not because they weren’t good but I’m just not that much into shrimp dumplings, I had to realize.

What was the absolute highlight was the “hot pot” (CHF 38.00 per person)! It’s one of the best bargains you can get in Zurich! It is important though that you pre-order the hot pot when you book your table as else you might end up not being as lucky as us and actually getting it that evening. You get so much food – it’s amazing. A whole plate of meat and even much more seafood.

And finally, the pot where you prepare these delicacies by yourself – and I must say, it’s absolutely amazing! It’s so much fun – you can eat for hours. And the stash of food only empties slowly.

I mean, we were two hungry guys and we were not able to finish all the things we were served that evening!

What is great about the place is the owner and his staff. They are all so incredibly friendly, attentive, and really understand what it means to be a host and to satisfy your customers.

During the course of that evening, we somehow managed to make disappear 24 bottles of beer. And at no point in time we were presented with an empty bottle in front of us. Not due to the fact that there were always two bottles on the table in front of us but due to the fact that the service is super attentive and made sure that basically the moment you would empty your bottle, you’d get a new one, i.e., they’d ask you if you want a new one.

So, from my perspective, the Uncle 7 is definitely a highlight here – fair atmosphere, great dishes, amazing price performance, and lovely and caring service! One of the secrets to be revealed – definitely worth going!
