An absolutely breath-taking view – and definitely overpriced: Restaurant La Muña @ La Réserve Eden Au Lac (8. June 2021)

I wanted to pay the La Muña a visit already pre Corona and Corona had somehow ruined my plans. Well, it was finally time to do so. If we get first to talk about the food – the summary is simple: Delicious but overpriced. We started with “maguro ceviche (red tuna ceviche, sesame, shiso)” (CHF 39.00) which was delicious but in terms of size not really fair when it comes to the price. Although this one was okay.

But looking at the “Salmon Tiradito (salmon, ponzu sauce, red tobiko, cilantro, aji amarillo, yuzukosho)” (CHF 36.00) I fail to understand how a tiny slice of salmon (which was okay but not outstanding) can cost CHF 7.20).

The “Sushi Salmon Roll (salmon, mango, cucumber, salmon tataki, crispy rice, karashi-mustard sauce)” (CHF 39.00) and the “Sushi Spicy Tuna (tuna, avocado, tempura flakes)” (CHF 42.00) are kind of in line what you pay for sushi in other places but I still think it’s too much. To be fair here, it was actually very tasty so at least that.

The “Pork Bao Buns” (CHF 36.00) which was a special of the day were good too. But again, CHF 12.00 per Bao Bun? I don’t know …

And the story continued with “gyoza with chicken and truffle” (CHF 39.00) and “crispy maguro (creamy spicy tuna tartar, jalapeño, spring onion, fried rice)” (CHF 36.00). Each of the dishes is tasty – no question. But if you are sharing and then considering that you might be hungry, it ends up in eating a lot of different dishes and you’ll still be hungry.

However, the “Shokora (chocolate mousse, lemongrass, matcha)” (CHF 18.00) and the “Lima (lime curd, lime confit, ivoire chocolate)” (CHF 20.00) were actually desserts I liked. Usually, I’m not big on desserts but the Lima was definitely absolutely enjoyable and also fun in terms of how to eat it. You basically have to smash the shell which is made of white chocolate to access the inner part of it and eat the actual dessert.

The “peach jelly” which was served as a little friandise was … nice.

What is truly amazing though is the view. Even though the weather that day was really not optimal / outstanding, the view is breathtaking. If you manage to get a table by the corner, you have a marvelous view all over Lake Zurich which is outstanding and quite unique.

But even if you would have to sit inside, the place is absolutely nice – more like a Swiss mountain Chalet but definitely lovely!

Looking at the service, there was a huge quality gap, depending on the person. Some of them were actually super swift and organized while others seemed to not have their best day (wrong order, etc.). Now, to be fair, they handled it professionally so not really any complaints but somehow not what I would expect from a restaurant in that price range.

Secondly, they were super strict about only being able to come at 6pm – since they would have to reoccupy their tables at 9pm. I’m fine with the two shifts concept. However, I don’t see why you as a restaurant wouldn’t allow me to only come at 6.30pm when I still stick to the timeline of 9pm. But this was – when I called – absolutely not possible. Weird flex. But yeah, whatever rocks your boat.

So, to sum it up – great view, amazing atmosphere! Rest – okay, but nothing breath-taking!
