A nice place for a good piece of meat: Restaurant El Chango (6. July 2021)
The El Chango got a 4.5 rating on Google which is quite high (and also has a rather high number of people who rated the restaurant), so I thought, hell, why not give it a try! Once you’re seated and have placed your order, you get some “bread and spread” which is consisting of some kind of tomato spread which is rather light and herb butter (which fits much better to the meat than to the bread).
As a starter, I went for the “gambas al ajillo (shrimps with hot garlic sauce)” (EUR 11.00) which were good since they were not in the hot cooking oil for too long, and, therefore, not too dry as you experience all too often.
The “bife de lomo (200gr)” (EUR 21.00) is a nice piece of meat and was cooked medium-rare but a bit too much on the medium side from a personal gusto perspective. However, the meat was good, and there were nice char coal flavors there. However, the meat could have been a bit more intense in terms of own flavor.
What was really kind of a delicious surprise was the “broccoli” (EUR 4.80) which was listed on the menu very emotionless. But it was actually great in terms of flavor and texture combination!
The “salsa bearnaise” (EUR 3.50) was okay – nothing mind-blowing but okay.
The place is rather small and, therefore, quickly crammed. The fact that it wasn’t that full this evening led to the fact that all happened on the ground floor (there is a second floor). And while the waiter, who seemed to be the owner, was super friendly, you had to be a bit patient (especially in the beginning) when ordering your menu and asking for the dishes. But, all in all, it’s a good place for a tasty and fair in price piece of meat. I think once times get a bit busier, booking is highly recommended.
