Under new ownership but still exquisite cuisine: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (6. July 2021)
It’s a few months ago since I’ve been eating at the Restaurant Freilager and something has changed since. The Brasserie Freilager is no longer part of the Dieter Meier Group but actually has become independent. And it didn’t change much in terms of quality and the like. The evening started with “bread & spread” and was actually good.
The “gazpacho (bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes)” (CHF 15.00) as a starter was exquisite. Refreshing. A nice portion in terms of size, and overall just good. To be fair though, somehow the CHF 15.00 feel a bit expensive for a cold soup. But still worth it.
The “young cow filet (2oogr) served with vegetables” (CHF 52.00) was actually quite enjoyable as the meat quality was good and the meat was prepared medium-rare (although a bit more on the rare side) just as I had ordered it.
The “risotto” (included, but usually CHF 6.50) was creamy and delicious and so was the “Sauce Béarnaise” (included, but usually CHF 1.50). The combination really made a great meal.
What has changed, if I recall correctly, is the pricing for water. While it’s still absolutely reasonable for Zurich terms (CHF 7.50 for 1L), it definitely has become more expensive. So, even under new ownership, the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager definitely remains a great place I can recommend. Booking a table in advance highly recommended!
