A place with a bit of an attitude and average food: Restaurant La Reina (12. July 2021)

| August 11, 2021 | 0 Comments

Surprisingly enough, the restaurant was rated relatively high on Google but I suppose that is mainly due to the fact that the food is relatively cheap. And it’s not bad. But it’s rather average. The “pan y aioli” was served complimentary which was nice to get started – also since it took a bit to take the orders. Or, let me rephrase, it took us a bit to write down the numbers we wanted to order on a piece of paper since “it’s easier if you do it yourself”. Uhm, I’m sorry, what’s your job then? Collecting the paper?

Same was true when it came to serving – it was the non-chalance with which she had put down the dishes in random order without even trying to kind of ‘assign’ them to the people who had ordered them. Frankly, a no go. The “boquerones fritos (fried sardines)” (EUR 5.80) were okay but would have been better served with some sauce. The “papas arrugadas con mojo picon (mojo potatoes, home-made sauce, spicy)” (EUR 4.90) were fine and the “pimientos de padrón (tasty green peppers from Galicia, sea salt)” (EUR 4.50) did the trick as well. All good, nothing exciting.

The “chorizo al jerez con huevo (chorizo in Rioja jus and egg)” (EUR 5.70) definitely sounded great but was somehow also not really mind-blowing.

At least the “albondigas (100% carne de res) (home-made meat balls in spicy tomato sauce)” (EUR 4.40) were kind of okay. But again far from exciting me.

All in all, the Restaurant La Reina is supposedly somewhat Latin American – but frankly, it isn’t. I mean, it might be by the name of the dishes they are serving but frankly speaking they are not really in terms of experience or the like. So, from my perspective, it’s pretty much a “don’t go” unless you look for affordable average food.
