17. November 2009: Restaurant Globe
The Globe restaurant is located on the 8th, top-floor of the shopping mall COIN at Piazza Cinque Giornate. It’s therefore, easily accessible by either tram 9 or 29/30 from Bocconi university. It’s not that far from Corso Buenos Aires (one of the largest shopping streets in Milan).
The restaurant is located on the top of the shopping mall and it offers two different possibilities to enjoy food. One is that you actually reserve a table and have a proper dinner/lunch there. If you do that, then you’re getting a table at the outer part of the top floor which allows you to see on the city from above – offering a marvelous view!
The other option to choose from in the evening is getting aperitivo on top of Milan.
In general, the atmosphere of the place is extremly nice. It looks a bit cold at first sight but offers a really nice and cosy feeling after you’ve chosen your table and settled down. It feels like being in a first class lounge, definitely chilly.
The waiters are swift and at your table within a few minutes, providing you with the ordered drinks in five minutes max. As ordering drinks once was the only service we’ve been requesting, it’s difficult to judge in more detail about the quality of the service.
The buffet is nicely presented and offers quite some choices: Pasta, pizza, salads, tomatoes, dips, bread, … The food is acceptably good, not really anything to complain about, on the other hand, not really anything to outline. It’s a good variety offered and if you take the location into account, it’s definitely okay to pay 10 €uros for a drink and food from the buffet. Having said that, it must be seen that in most aperitivo places in Milan you can get a drink and food from the buffet for 7-8 €uros. So, Globe is slightly more expensive than that but it’s worth it to enjoy the atmosphere in good company.
