A wanna-be tapas bar with ambiguous pricing: Restaurant Meister Gerhard (18. August 2021)

| September 28, 2021 | 0 Comments

The Meister Gerhard is a place which wants to see that your either recovered from Covid, tested or fully vaccinated. And frankly, that’s good this way. Especially since you’re relatively close to other people when you’re inside. The place is German but tries to come across as a tapas bar – and doesn’t fully succeed with that. We went for “patatas fritas with lime aioli” (EUR 3.90) which was definitely great. Since it was on the daily menu, we also went for a “beef bratwurst” (EUR 8.60) and were, let’s say, massively surprised when we got a 7 cm bratwurst – for EUR 8.60! I mean, that’s more than 1 EUR per cm. Seems a bit off to me – and on top of that, the bratwurst was quite dry, so also far from very enjoyable.

The “pimientos de padrón with seal salt and olive oil” (EUR 4.90) as well as the “boquerones” (EUR 5.60) were good. Not the best I’ve ever had but definitely okay.

The “crispy goat cheese in a herb cover and chutney” (EUR 5.60) was not really anything which I would order again. It was a whole lot of crispy but else far from truly enjoyable.

Te “albbondigas from „Friedrichs – Die Mezgerei“ in spicy tomato sauce” (EUR 5.90) on the other hand, were good again. What I don’t really get is the fact that they serve stuff in a way so it’s not easy to split between two. Most tables don’t host more than two people and yet, three meat balls is kind of not obvious to split by two in a fair way. And that, especially in Corona times.

There were “black tiger prawns on a salad” (EUR 6.80) on the daily menu and that looked very promising. However, it was literally two prawns. I mean, come on?

At least the “wild water shrimp in olive oil and garlic” (EUR 9.00) were a fair portion with seven pieces and they also tasted quite decently.

The place wants to be a tapas place and almost succeeds – but not fully. The food isn’t bad but it’s also definitely not outstanding and the items on the daily menu are a serious rip-off. The place itself is nice but also not outstanding and depending on where you’re seated, it’s not entirely comfortable to sit there for hours. The waitress was friendly and helpful though making sure you’d have everything you needed at all times.
