Delicious Asian food bargain but overstrained service personnel: Restaurant Nam (24. August 2021)
It is not easy to find a restaurant on a Thursday evening in Cologne without booking a table in advance. Luckily, the Nam still had availability – only inside, but at least. I went for the “Goi Cuon (fresh summer rolls, filled with prawns, pork roll, rice noodles, salad, herbs) and home-made peanut tamarind dip” (EUR 5.30). While the rolls were great, the speed of the service wasn’t. The rolls stood on the counter for a solid 10 minutes before they were finally served. And I get it, it was just two people which were responsible for inside and outside and they did drinks, brought food, cleaned tables, settled bills, etc. – but bringing the food which is ready to be served to the table of the customer should really kind of have priority in my eyes.
The “Bun La Lot (minced beef seasoned with lemon gras and garlic, wrapped in wild betel leaves and grilled) served with rice noodles, salad, home-made radish carrot salad, slices of cucumber and a home-made tamarind sauce” (EUR 12.50) was absolutely enjoyable since it was refreshing but was still enough food so you wouldn’t walk out hungry.
The place is relatively simple in terms of atmosphere but still nice – the service is super friendly but they are somehow not really organized enough since it just takes way too much time for them to get anything done which I found rather surprising since they cannot have been dealing with that many customers for the first time.
