When you try too hard and kind of fail at everything: Restaurant Nou Racó (12. September 2021)

| October 30, 2021 | 0 Comments

Visiting Albufera is something I can definitely recommend – visiting the Nou Racó not so much though. I had booked a table in advance and had to pick a “rice” dish (if I wanted one) and that turned out to be not such a great choice. In any case, as a starter I picked the “vegetable garden salad” (EUR 16.70) and while it was actually good in terms of taste and in terms of breadth of ingredients, I felt like being ripped of for being charged 16.70 EUR for a salad in Valencia (respectively, even outside of Valencia).

The “Iberian ham and truffled croquettes” (EUR 18.00) were delicious, but again, 3.00 EUR for one croquette seems off.

And last but not least, the “crab and mantis shrimp rice” (EUR 36.50 per person) is really not to be recommended. The rice wasn’t fully cooked, the mantis shrimp is definitely nothing enjoyable, respectively there is no meat in it (or I was absolutely incapable of finding it).

Last but not least, there was a “servicio pan” (EUR 2.40) on the bill (which I saw too late) although there was no bread to be consumed – and the service was sub-terrestrial. Maybe it wasn’t entirely optimal to be seated at the last table (with I suppose the best view onto the river since the rest of the place was booked for a wedding) but the lack of attention and the time they spent doing things which were inefficient was breath-taking – but not the good way. So, all in all, the Nou Racó is not a place I would recommend you to visit besides the fact that it’s pretty inaccessible if you’re not traveling by car, i.e., you have to wait a solid 20-30 minutes to get a cab.
