When you score a table for lunch and it turns out better than expected: Restaurant Aldente (30. October 2021)

It turned out to be extremely difficult to find a place for lunch on Saturday during the truffle fair. Everything was booked out. I called 10 different restaurants and none of them had a table free. We walked into a few and asked for a table and even there, no luck. However, with the Aldente we ended up being lucky because a few minutes after us, someone walked in and asked for a table and they were kindly informed to return in one hour.

In any case, after being seated and going through the necessary procedures like green pass and all the like, we were able to place our orders and frankly, the staff was super friendly and calm, although the place was buzzing and super packed. I went for the “flan di funghi con fonduta” (EUR 9.50) as a starter which turned out to be quite good. I mean, it looks semi-appealing but the mushroom tarte was actually enjoyable and the cheese fonduta which came with it added to the flavor and texture.

The “gnocchi al Castelmango” (EUR 12.00) were intense and had a certain taste of sourness but were still enjoyable. Adding some pepper definitely improved the dish though.

Last but not least, the “tiramisu” (EUR 5.00) was a good ending to the lunch but also quite a portion.

My recommendation for lunch on a weekend in Alba during the truffle fair definitely is “book in advance” as else you will barely stand a chance to find a table or you have to turn out to be very lucky (like we were). All in all, the Aldente is a nice traditional Italian restaurant which offers exactly that – nice traditional Italian food.
