A traditional Mexican food experience in an amazing setting in the city center: Restaurant Azul Histórico (16. November 2021)

| February 5, 2022 | 0 Comments

If you are close to the Zócalo, it’s worth walking around the area as you do find some hidden gems like the Azul Histórico. I walked past the entrance a few times since I didn’t exactly see that there was a lovely restaurant inside. After having passed and following the dot on Google Maps, I finally walked  in.

You’re greeted by a lovely environment as the restaurant is located in a patio and it’s full with trees and you’re just kind of feeling very comfortable. Despite the fact that it’s approximately 20 degrees in November outside, it can become rather cold in the patio since …

… the roof is covered by the trees. The place is super friendly and the waiters show up rather quickly making sure you have everything you need within no time.

As a starter I went for the “guacamole copeteado con chapulines (servido con totopos del Istmo de Oaxaca, ideal para compartir) (chapulines 25gr)” (195 MXN) which was amazing. The guacamole was super smooth and rich and it went so damn well with the grasshoppers – since they had a very strong flavor and seasoning. Absolutely lovely and absolutely delicious to start!

Apparently, the Azul Histórico is known for their moles, so obviously, I went for a mole as a main. I picked the “mole poblano conventual (mole clásico con chile ancho, mulato y pasilla, frutos secos y variedad de especias. Servido con pechuga y muslo de pollo deshuesado) (180 gr)” (300 MXN) which turned out to be super intense but also lovely in terms of flavor.

In combination with the flavored rice …

… and the lovely looking tortillas, it turned out to be a super delicious dish.

The Azul Histórico is definitely a lovely place to visit when you’re close to the Zócalo since it offers good food, for a fair price, in an amazing setting and with super friendly and competent service. Booking in advance for the evenings.
