Still offering great dishes with cool, young waiters: Restaurant Hopfenau (19. January 2022)
It is about four years ago since I’ve been to the Restaurant Hopfenau and I recall why it is actually a nice restaurant I can recommend. I went for the “Jerusalem artichoke leek cream soup (with crispy Grisons meat stripes and bread croutons)” (CHF 13.50) which was nice in terms of flavor and intensity.
Since I felt like having veal liver but it was only served as a starter, I asked them if it was possible to get it as a main course – and they made it possible. The “breaded veal liver stripes with cashews on red cabbage salad with apple, garnished with rocket salad aioli” (CHF 27.50) turned out to be tasty – but not as tasty as I thought it would be. The breading of the veal stripes did not really add to the whole experience since it somewhat kills the flavor of the liver which I like so much.
What was a bit of a disappointment though was the “cheese from Chäs & Co with dried fruit chutney and fig mustard” (CHF 12.50) since the selection was super limited and didn’t include any cheese which was a bit more on the intense side of things (like a blue cheese).
However, the place is super nice in terms of interior design and the staff is super friendly, jovial, and helpful making sure you have everything you need and want throughout the evening. Booking in advance is not only highly recommended but actually a necessity.
Doppio (CHF 7.00)
