An authentic Italian coming-home experience: Restaurant Grottino 1313 (21. January 2022)

It is more than four years ago since I’ve last been to the Grottino 1313 and I must say that I still like the concept. What you get is basically a pre-determined menu – in this case a “four course menu” (CHF 74.00) which is set – there is nothing to decide for you. You just get what there is – which is quite a lovely traditionally Italian concept. The whole dinner starts with cold cuts and bread – and the cold cuts are actually delicious.

The whole concept is more like eating at a family table than in a restaurant which is why you get the soup and the salad in a large bowl and not served on a plate. The “leek soup” was good but a bit heavy on the cream side for my personal gusto – and the salad was nice since it was a nice mixture of different ingredients.

The “pasta” which was served as a ‘primo piatto’ was nice since it was cooked al dente as I like it and the sauce was actually very enjoyable.

The main course, or ‘secondo piatto’ was “osso bucco” which was surprisingly delicious. The only thing which was a bit of a disappointment was the fact that there was just one piece with bone marrow (since it’s a bit hard to share like that). The risotto was good too since it had a nice bite but wasn’t too hard.

The “cheese selection” which I took instead of dessert was decent but could have used a bit more explanation.

What I like about the plcae is not only the concept but also the looks of it. The outside of the Grottino 1313 is super lovely and defintiely perfect to sit down and have an apéro in summer.

But it’s not only lovely on the outside but also on the inside – somehow traditional yet appealing, and just making you feel comfortable and welcome.

Last but not least, it’s the small things which matter like a little welcome note from the restaurant – “laughing is the most beautiful language in the world”. And they are right, it is!

If you’re into an authentic Italian experience, you should definitely try the Grottino 1313 since the food is tasty, the price is absolutely fair, the place itself is lovely, and the service is doing a good job too. Booking in advance is a must.
