Famous for its traditional Swiss cuisine – but on the pricier side: Restaurant Kronenhalle (23. January 2022)
If you want to be part of Zurich’s high society, you should make sure that you get a table downstairs and not on the upper floor. Personally, I like the upper floor since it is a bit more quiet and you can actually hold a conversation. As a starter I went for the “beetroot soup” (CHF 18.00) which was enjoyable but definitely on the pricier side of things for what you get.
The “cut veal filet ‘Kronenhalle'” (CHF 59.00) is one of the dishes the Kronenhalle is famous for – and rightly so. The meat is tender, delicious, and the sauce of the ‘Zürcher Geschnetzeltes’ is mouth-watering. In order to keep things fresh, you get two servings if you take the full portion. Which I think is good since one portion really just is a bit little if you’re hungry.
For dessert, I went for the “caramelized white chocolate with sour cherries and meringue” (CHF 22.00) which looked absolutely lovely and was also rather tasty. Luckily the sour cherries weren’t overwhelming but balanced off quite well with the rest of the dessert.
The place is ultimately a place to see and to be seen – but it als ohas tradition. The interior of the Kronenhalle is generally appealing in terms of how it is designed if you appreciate the ‘older things’. The service is professional, attentive, and making sure you get everything. The thing which does’t happen is the ‘vibe’ you get in a restaurant but more the traditional combination of ‘I’m paying, you’re serving’ which is a bit out of the time. Still, in terms of quality of the dishes, I can recommend the Kronenhalle – if you’re price sensitive, I’d recommend you though to go somewhere else.
