Overrated and overpriced – but decent food: Restaurant Beef Grill Club by Hasir am Kurfürstendamm (6. March 2022)

| April 25, 2022 | 0 Comments

The Beef Grill Club by Hasir exists four times in Berlin and I was wondering where to have something for lunch and it turns out, the Beef Grill Club is better in terms of name than in terms of actual experience. The place was empty when we entered but we were welcomed friendly, or at least professionally. Once you have placed your order, not before, you’re served “olives, bread and olive oil”. The olives are quite tasty but the bread and olive oil are nothing special.

I went for the “Beef Grill Club Tatar (120g beef tatar classic, classic garnishes, grilled bread)” (EUR 19.90) which I was looking quite forward to. Especially since it looked like it was going to be prepared at your table. Turns out that is only semi-true, i.e., they prepare it freshly but they do not actually do that at your table but a bit afar. Not sure why since the whole ‘live show’ is part of the experience – so I had to get up and take a picture of the ingredients when the waiter had left to get salt and pepper.

The final version of the tatar looks decent but there are too many herbs and chive for my personal gusto. In terms of flavor, it turns out the tatar was somewhat too seasoned making it a bit ‘dry’.

The “grilled bread” which was served with it was fine but had too much of a grill taste kind of ruining the tatar. So, my starter wasn’t really all too exciting. Sure, good, but not much more.

The “Châteaubriand (500gr)” (EUR 72.00) isn’t a bad deal for two people. And I must say that this was actually good meat. The fact that it’s served on a sizzling hot metal plate adds to the overall experience of course. The meat was tender and delicious.

When it comes to the sides, I think it’s a bit of a rip-off to charge EUR 5.00 for a tiny piece of “Sauce Béarnaise” (EUR 5.00). Secondly, the “Beef Grill Club French fries” (EUR 5.90) were decent but could easily have had a bit more salt. Lastly, the “Spinach” (EUR 5.90) shouldn’t be called spinach if there are also tomatoes and onions in it. I was looking forward to spinach and not to a mixture of vegetables. So, as good as the main meat was, as disappointing were the sides and sauce.

From a food point of view, the Beef Grill Club by Hasir was acceptable – but nothing more than that and definitely not a place I would return to.

All in all, the interior is nice, the service is friendly, the food is palatable. However, as I had mentioned, not a place I would personally visit again.
