Definitely a Must-Visit when you’re in Berlin: Restaurant Bass (6. March 2022)

| April 25, 2022 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Bass is a true gem! What you find here is great food for small prices in a simple but appealing location with great and passionate service! Once you’re seated, you get some bread and spread which both are of high quality.

Since I felt that a “three course menu” for EUR 29.00 couldn’t contain too much food really, I decided to add a few starters to the whole experience. So I went for the “matjes tatar with cucumber and whey” (EUR 9.50) and it turned out to be a great starting dish.

The “sausage cheese salad from Baden” (EUR 8.50) was exactly that – a tasty but simple salad. And what I liked about it was the fact that, despite it’s “heaviness from an ingredient point of view”, it was super light and easy to eat quite a bit of it.

With the menu, I decided to go for the “four course wine pairing” (EUR 20.50) so I would also have a glass of wine for the additional starters and I must say that while they had only selected white and rosé wines, the selection was exquisite. Seldomly have I ever had so many good white wines like in this wine pairing.

The first course of the menu was a “smoked char with apple and horseradish” and it turned out to be a light but mouth-watering dish.

The “GRÜNKERN soup with leek” was plenty but it was great too – smooth, yet intense.

Finally, the “French lemon chicken breast with leek and young potatoes” was another great bite. Refreshing, and really a good main.

The place is simple but really appealing since it has its very own vibe. That is also largely driven by the two owners Bernd Schwarz and Anja Stiba which really make it a hell of an experience – open, friendly, attentive, and really caring about food and the guest experience, they make for a great team.

I had not expected too much of the Restaurant Bass but I must say that it is definitely a place I will gladly return to when I’m in Berlin again.
