13. May 2011: Bar León
The Plato Leones (CHF 35.00) offers ham, chorizo, manchego, and olives accompanied by bread. The manchego is good and tasty, the ham is okay and the chorizo is more some kind of salami than actual chorizo but it still is good. While I had a coupon and only paid have the official price, the full price is CHF 35.00 which I consider pretty expensive for the platter you get. But at least it’s enough for three people to get your stomach full.
The house wine (red) is good and the house wine (white) is even better – a glass costs CHF 6.00 which is also quite fair.
If you’re sitting otuside, the atmosphere is not really great but that’s just a problem of the location as it is located pretty close to the streets and you’re – therefore – always confronted with the noise of the street. The owners of the bar definitely made the best out of it and tried to create a peaceful and atmospheric space – it just won’t really work because of the given setting.
The waiter is friendly and quick but does not speak Spanish which one could expect when eating in a Tapas Bar. Still, the service is good. Overall, I can recommend the Bar León as it is a place with its distinct style, friendly service, good food and fair prices for drinks. The only shortcoming – or upside (depending on your point of view) – is that you’re allowed to smoke inside and the not so great atmosphere outside because of the street noise.
