A great place for wings – definitely worth visiting: Restaurant Yardbird Southern Fried Chicken (14. March 2022)
It’s about three years ago since I’ve last been to the Yardbird Southern Fried Chicken – and I must say it was great to return. I have good memories of the place since the chicken was great – and I was really kind of looking forward to trying it again. As a starter we shared “crispy chicken skins (buttermilk braised chicken skins served with thyme, honey, black pepper and homemade hot sauce)” (CHF 12.00) which were of course greasy an somewhat fatty but overall rather delicious.
What they are famous for are their wings. And I must say that the “American Dream Wings (tossed in a homemade glaze of honey, bacon, chipotle and rosemary)” (CHF 28.00 but CHF 28.50 charged) with “Dirty Fries (cheddar cheese sauce, chorizo red wine, pickled onions)” (usually CHF 9.00 but only + CHF 3.00) and “Leaf Salad” (CHF 6.00) are absolutely delicious. The fries are a bit too much for my personal gusto but the wings are absolutely amazing and definitely something I can appreciate. The leaf salad is just that – a leaf salad, so rather boring.
While I was a bit surprised about it, I must say that the “Yardbird Mule (maker’s mark bourbon, buen amigo resposado tequila, lime juice, angostura bitters, spicy ginger ale)” (CHF 16.00) was actually quite enjoyable too as well as …
… the “Kentucky Lemonade (muddled mint & ginger, moonshine whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, ginger ale)” (CHF 16.00). Sure, you’re not coming here for the drinks but for the wings – but in any case, they are quite fine as well.
The place is simple in terms of interior design – which changes a bit when you’re on the toilet sicne Nicolas Cage is really just everywhere which is a bit freaky. Other than that, the staff is friendly and does their job sufficiently well. It’s not like the best service ever but it’s functional and relatively swift.
All in all, if you’re into chicken, then you should definitely try the Yardbird Southern Fried Chicken to get some wings – and, if you want to make sure that you get a table, make sure you book in advance.
