A delicious tasting menu experience in a traditional setting: Restaurant Weisses Rössli (13. April 2022)

The last time I was at the Weisses Rössli, I was quite disappointed since back then it had ranked No. 1 on TripAdvisor and that wasn’t right for sure. Since my friend had booked the restaurant, I decided to give it a try, and was quite positively surprised. The “three-course menu” (CHF 83.00) with an additional “savoury course” (+ CHF 20.00) was lovely. Before you actually get started, there is a little surprise from the kitchen – this evening, a “salmon tartar with sour cream and tomatoes” accompanied by an “omelet with zucchini” which were both good to get your palate started.

Then, some “bread with lemon butter” was served and while the bread was good, the lemon butter definitely was better.

The good thing about the several-courses menu is that you get to pick which courses you want. So, I decided to go for “Asparagus, Morels, Wild Garlic” (+ CHF 2.00) which was interesting since the asparagus was breaded and the wild garlic was served as a sauce making it a great combination of different flavours and textures.

The “Onsen Egg, Ham from Tuscany, potato foam, beans” was great but had, I find, one error. The pieces of ham were too big. If they were smaller and more evenly spread, I think that would have been much better to enjoy since it would have distributed the saltiness evenly over the whole dish. That being said, the dish was still tasty.

The “veal tartar, tomatoes, baby leaf, Parmesan” was interesting – with one downside, the tartar had so many ingredients that it was hard to taste the actual tartar.

The main course I chose were “Mathieu’s Bäggli (veal cheeks, Pommes Dauphine, beans, morels, black garlic)” and I must say, it was delicious. The veal cheeks were super tender and just delicious in combination with the morels. The Pommes Dauphine with the black garlic on top were absolutely mouth-watering bites on the side of the dish.

Last but not least, some friandises were served like “cocos cake; coffee chocolate; and blueberry cake”.

The place is simple but nice in terms of interior design. The service is friendly and quite attentive! What wasn’t so cool was that they added CHF 20.00 for an additional savoury dish we hadn’t had. I only realised the next morning and emailed them and within a few minutes, everything was settled within the hour. So, all in all, I must say, I can absolutely recommend the Restaurant Weisses Rössli now – great (simple) place, delicious food, fair prices, and good service. Booking in advance required though as the place was completely packed.
