A truly delicious hotpot experience close to KuDamm: Restaurant Ting Song 随园·听松 Hotpot (22. April 2022)

Since I’ve talked with a friend about hotpot a few weeks back, I was craving hotpot, always remembering that amazing hotpot I have had in Shanghai back in 2017 in the Restaurant Elixir Health Pot! Today it was the day to do that again, and I went for a good selection of all kind of tasty dishes. The “crispy fried pork” (EUR 9.80) and “crispy fried shrimp tempura” (EUR 8.80) were both good to enjoy and a nice little non-hotpot element to the dinner.

Since it was kind of highlight for me to have a hotpot again, I decided to get the max out of it and went for the “hotpot 4 flavours ((1) Sichuan spicy with ox oil (very spicy), (2) tomato, (3) ox broth, (4) water with goji berries)” (EUR 17.80) which was fine. To be fair, I put the most of my stuff in the Sichuan spicy with ox oil, which I had ordered very spicy and was just amazing in terms of flavour.

There is also a selection of “hotpot sauces” (EUR 2.50/person) you can pick from – my pick was “(1) leek flower sauce, (2) Hoisin (seaweed sweet) sauce, (3) fermented shrimp sauce, (4) garlic chilli paste, (5) chopped chilli, and (6) peanut and sesame sauce”. I loved the Hoisin and the fermented shrimp sauce. The leek flower sauce was also quite interesting, as it is something I have never tried before.

Then, it was time for the different things to put into the hotpot. The “beef plate (250gr) ((1) fresh high rib; (2) fresh rib eye; (3) sliced brisket roll; (4) spicy tender beef)” (EUR 19.80) offers a nice selection of different beef cuts and was complemented by the “sliced pork belly (120gr)” (EUR 7.80).

Then, the interesting plate came starting with “marinated spare ribs (4 pieces)” (EUR 6.80) which weren’t the interesting part yet. But the “pig’s brain” (EUR 8.80) and the “duck tongues” (EUR 6.80) were definitely something quite unique. The pig’s brain was actually surprisingly delicious. The duck tongues were interesting too but not that amazing since they did not offer much meat (okay, to be fair, no surprise there).

The “small vegetable basket” (EUR 18.80) was complemented by “hand-made soft noodles” (EUR 4.80), “Konjac noodles” (EUR 4.80) and “hand-made dumplings (6 pieces; beef, pork, vegan)” (EUR 6.80) and all of it was great in the broth. The hand-made soft noodles though really spiced up things (literally) since they soaked the hotpot fully in which made it incredibly spicy. I had to take a small break before fully digging into it and having a second round. Was delicious though!

There is also a selection of nice teas which offer refills. I went for the “Chrysanthemum with bio goji berries” (EUR 5.80) which was interesting and definitely enjoyable.

The “Chongqing Mule” (EUR 8.80) was fine as well but not as exciting as I had hoped for. I always try the mules on a cocktail menu, but somehow there wasn’t too much of a surprise in terms of flavour for this cocktail.

The place is relatively hot and humid (which makes sense, due to all the steaming hotpots) and you will smell a bit like hotpot once you leave. But it’s nice and still very atmospheric. On top of that, the service is relatively attentive, and they are super friendly and helpful. So, all in all, if you’re into hotpot, I can recommend you to try the Restaurant Ting Song. Make sure to book in advance as the place isn’t that huge, and it was absolutely fully booked that evening.
