Still a good restaurant, also under new management: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (27. April 2022)

| May 29, 2022 | 0 Comments

Since the Brasserie Freilager has a new owner, a few things have changed, among others, the menu. Since the same place which used to be only the Brasserie Freilager also holds a Barfüsser Sushi restaurant now, they are doing some kind of mixture and serve an amuse bouche from the other restaurant. That evening, it was a “vegan tuna roll with vuna” (yeah, vuna, not tuna, as in “vegan tuna”). It was somehow okay, but it doesn’t resemble tuna but much more canned tuna and for a sushi roll, I’m not sure, that’s something too enjoyable.

However, they also offer a few new dishes which I was keen to try. The “pork belly carpaccio with cherry tomato chutney” (CHF 23.00) sounded super appealing and while I would somewhat wonder if one can call cooked pork belly really a carpaccio (although, admittedly, it’s also hard to imagine raw), I must admit it was rather delicious in combination with the cherry tomato chutney.

The “lamb chops with wild garlic crust, rosemary potatoes and spring vegetables” (CHF 62.00) turned out to be quite exquisite since they didn’t taste much like lamb on the one hand side, and on the other hand side, the wild garlic crust was actually incredibly delicious. So, definitely a main course worth trying.

The “rosemary potatoes” on the side were okay – and plenty.

The place hasn’t changed in terms of interior design, so it’s still spacious, modern, appealing. The service does a good job and is friendly, although it took a while in the beginning until they were able to take our order. The “sour cream and salted caramel ice cream” (CHF 11.00) were fine but rather standard though.

What I was a bit surprised by was the “Bricco dell’Uccellone, 2018, Braida” not in terms of taste but that it was available at CHF 99.00 since most oftne it’s above CHF 100.00 a bottle. In any case, the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager under new management is definitely a bit different compared to when it belonged to Dieter Meier, but it remains a place worth visiting.
