Amazing Greek food with a view onto the sea: Taverna Gorgona Plaka (26. June 2022)

| July 21, 2022 | 0 Comments

Finding a place close to Elounda or Plaka which is great is easy, and it’s not. There are so many nice looking restaurants by the sea that the choice is rather hard. Finally, I had asked the reception of my hotel where I should go, and they pointed me to Gorgona in Plaka. And it was a good recommendation. The place is simple, but appealing and the right combination between modern and traditional. On top of that, the staff is friendly and swift.

I went for “pita bread” (EUR 1.40), “stuffed wine leaves” (EUR 6.00), “zucchini balls” (EUR 6.50) and “hummus” (EUR 6.00) and I must say that all was great. I mean, the hummus in the Middle East is still better than this one, but this one was rather enjoyable.

Then, of course, like basically every day, I had a “Greek salad (tomato, cucumber, pepper, onion, olives, feta, oregano, olive oil)” (EUR 6.50) which was again a bargain, and rich in terms of flavour. I just love their tomatoes – so intense and great.

And of course, something from the sea, since the restaurant is located right next to it. I went for “fried anchovies” (EUR 8.50) and must say that they were good. I mean, there is not too much there in terms of flavour or the like, but they were good.

What I like about the place is its proximity to the sea. You’re seated meters away from the sea shore – and it’s not only beautiful, it’s also interesting since there is always something going on in the mini harbour right next to the restaurant. Quite entertaining really!

Overall, I can recommend the Taverna Gorgona Plaka – great local experience with swift, but super friendly service, good food, and all of it for a more than fair price!
