Newly opened in a breathtaking location but truly hyped: Restaurant Mimosa (9. July 2022)

The Mimosa restaurant had just opened and is located in the courtyard of the former Marine Ministry building – and it’s actually quite nice in terms of decoration and design. What isn’t too nice is the fact that the service is totally not up to the task, and more than half of them are constantly on their phones. Which obviously impacts service quality quite a bit. On top of that, the level of friendliness varies greatly between the different individuals.

When you’re seated, after some time has passed, you are served “bread, oil, and salt”. The ciabatta is super fluffy and enjoyable – and the oil is quite nice too. It’s important though you take the bread since everything subsequent takes a while.

Since they seemed to be somehow their signature dish, we went for the “eggs mimosa” (EUR 8.00). And the regular ones were actually quite enjoyable, but not as special as I had somehow hoped for, given that they are the house speciality.

The “eggs mimosa anchoïade” (EUR 17.00) were definitely to my liking since they are basically prepared with anchovy paste – but EUR 17.00 for three egg halves is just out of this world. I’m sorry, but this is not justified in any way.

The “fennel salad, poutargue, stracciatella” (EUR 24.00) on the other hand was quite enjoyable. I mean, it was light and quite lovely.

The “fried garden vegetables à la Niçoise, ‘Giusti’ style” (EUR 17.00) was an interesting combination. The fried vegetables all tasted the same since the grated cheese on top was kind of overwhelming when it comes to flavour.

As a main, I went for the “Mediterranean red tuna steak, wild peppers, riquette” (EUR 48.00) which was good. But it was not even close to EUR 48.00 good. Or had a size which would justify the price. To sum it up, the whole food experience is somewhat disappointing – the food is good, no question. But it is far from amazing. And it is also way too expensive.

Which was very true for the “French fries” (EUR 8.00) too (which were actually pommes allumettes). Although, I must say, they were quite good.

The “chou-chou doughnut, caramel, vanilla ice-cream” (EUR 15.00) was a dish which was very much down my alley when it comes to sweet flavour profiles. But it was a dish which can at least feed two, and it was rather heavy. But with vanilla and caramel, you can definitely enjoy it.

The place is super lovely – so, it’s definitely enjoyable to dine here in terms of atmosphere. I would probably ask for a table ‘outside outside’ where you have a bit more privacy, since the tables on the actual terrace are all incredibly close to each other and don’t offer any kind of space or privacy.

All in all, the Mimosa is a decent new place – but not more than decent. Frankly, the prices are just too high, even for central Paris, considering what you get in terms of quality and amount. Unless you feel like you must give it a try, it is not something I would necessarily recommend.
