A lovely location, just not really a rooftop garden: Restaurant Roof Garden @ Globus (25. July 2022)

The Roof Garden on top of the Globus mall somehow sounded extremely promising – but turned out to be not as great as I had expected. The whole thing is called ‘Roof Garden’ which implies somehow a rooftop element. And well, you’re on top of Globus, so you’re on is roof, however, it doesn’t really feel like a rooftop because you don’t really have any view from there. In any case, the waiter was super friendly and attentive and after having placed the order, a “king fish ceviche” was served as an amuse bouche which was quite enjoyable.

The “hummus (chick peas, lemon, tahini, Kalamata olives)” (CHF 12.00) was surprisingly tasty. Very often, the hummus you get is super coarse and, therefore, not very enjoyable. In any case, this was not true today, and the hummus turned out to be fine and delicious. Not sure what the olives were doing there, as they did not really add anything to the whole experience.

The “babaganoush (smokey aubergine purée, sesame, lemon)” (CHF 13.00) was good, as in, it was prepared how it should be. I’m still no big fan of the dish, since it’s too smokey for me – unfortunately.

The “veal flank steak with artichoke hearts, two types of celery” (CHF 48.00) was served in a way which wasn’t all too appealing. Luckily, it was quite delicious. Frankly, I do not recall when I last had a veal flank steak but it’s definitely something I can recommend you to try if you haven’t yet.

The “Le Jardinier” (CHF 19.00) which I had as a starting drink was refreshing and generally good. But far from exquisite.

The place itself is overall quite nice – especially inside. The area which is the roof garden (i.e., outside) is rather non-appealing and, as mentioned above, doesn’t provide any view over the city (which you would usually expect from a place like this).

To be fair, the welcoming ‘bear chair’ is a bit creepy though since it is definitely a bit much …

Inside, it’s nice and modern …

… with a view into the kitchen …

… and a quite appealing bar.

Even the toilet is designed in an appealing way (well, the bathroom, that is).

All in all, I liked the Roof Garden per se, the place is nice, the staff was professional and friendly, the food is good, and the prices are fair. It’s just not really a rooftop somehow – which is why I was a bit disappointed.
