Delicious fish dishes with a view onto Scharzmützelsee: Restaurant Das Dorsch (28. July 2022)

Getting a good restaurant on short notice is quite a challenge for a weekend in summer. However, after trying for a bit, I finally scored a reservation at the ‘Das Dorsch’ (which means ‘The Cod’) – which was indeed almost booked out. I went for the “smoked eel fillet served on scrambled egg with herbs on rye bread from Holstein” (EUR 16.50) which was definitely interesting in terms of flavour combination. I had missed the fact that it was served on a scrambled egg, which is a bit weird to have scrambled egg for dinner. In any case, the smoked eel was intense, and the egg balanced off this intensity quite nicely.

The “cod filet, grilled on its skin in nut butter, potato purée with parsley reduction, onion cream, bacon cubes and a crab chip” (EUR 27.00) was great. The flavour combination of the smoothness and silkiness of the fish in combination with the saltiness of the bacon cubes, and the creaminess of the potato purée was exquisite.

The “French fries ‘Rustic Skin'” (EUR 4.50) with “truffle mayonnaise” (EUR 2.50) were a nice add to the dish. Especially, since the French fries were actually quite delicious, crispy, and went super well with the truffle mayonnaise which wasn’t overwhelming which you could normally expect from a truffle mayonnaise.

Ultimately, I had asked for “wild broccoli” (EUR 6.00), which I had seen on the plate of a neighbouring table. And they served it since I had requested it – which was great!

The place itself is overall lovely, since you have a view onto the Scharmützelsee. Make sure to ask for a table at the front of the porch, though, so you actually have a proper view. When it comes to the wine selection though, they do not offer that many vines and the only one which was somewhat to my liking was the “Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Cantine Bonacchi, S.P.A.” which also happened to be the most expensive one on the menu with EUR 65.00. To sum it up, make sure you book well in advance, as else it will be tricky for you to score a table on a weekend, and enjoy the view and the good food with friendly service.
