3. June 2011: Restaurant Zum Schiffchen
The ocean perch filet in beer dow with French Fries and remoulade (EUR 8.50) as a lunch meal is pretty okay. The fish is good, the beer crust is tasty, the French Fries are a bit too dry and the sauce fits the whole thing.
A beer with sprite, called Alster, is also pretty fair in price (0,5L, EUR 3.80). The waiters are friendly and helpful and are trying to fulfil your wishes immediately. I’ve ordered some more sauce and I got it within 2 minutes although the waiter had to walk back to the kitchen quite a bit.
The atmosphere is also nice, the Restaurant Zum Schiffchen is located in the Hafencity (the newly built harbour part of Hamburg) and the buildings around are modernly designed, there is some green space, the whole thing is located close to the water front and overall, it’s just nice. Only that it is built right next to a street is not so great but you can handle that as the traffic is not too intense.
All in all, the Restaurant zum Schiffchen is a nice place in the Hafencity to have a cheap lunch. The atmosphere is nice, the food is good, the prices are low and the service is good too. Definitely recommendable.
