A lovely little restaurant with a small menu, but in a lovely location: Restaurant Bar Brass (14. August 2022)

Finding a restaurant in Berlin I haven’t tried and which has great ratings isn’t that easy any more. Luckily, Berlin is big enough, so that you find something still. The Bar Brass was such a place. I went for a “Pisco Sour” (EUR 12.00) to start, which was definitely nice.

The “bread & spread” was served without much commentary from the waiter, but the bread was actually exquisite! The spread was rather okay, but the bread, served warm, was absolutely mouth-watering.

I went for the “mountain trout ceviche, papaya, avocado, sweet potato” (EUR 18.00) which didn’t look too much like ceviche at first. But once I had eaten the tasty sweet potato chips and got to dig into the rest, it turned out to be surprisingly ‘ceviche-y’ – and quite delicious. The quality of the fish was great, fresh, not chewy pieces at all, and in combination with the freshness of the papaya, the leche de tigre, and the smoothness of the avocado, it was just a great starter.

The “buffalo minute steak, miso aubergine, Jerusalem artichoke, artichoke” (EUR 26.00) was quite okay. The meat was a bit too strained for me, but still, overall, enjoyable. The sauce was tasty and definitely something I was able to enjoy. The vegetable assortment was great too – but it was just somehow too hot for a dish like this. Other than that, super tasty.

The place is rather nice in terms of interior design as it is modern, spacious, and inviting …

… you get to see the kitchen …

… as well as their special decoration. What was a bit weird was the fact that there was literally nobody around – and only after I had called (while already standing in the restaurant) and the phone started ringing, someone appeared. I mean, sure, I get it, if you don’t have any customers, it’s kind of not necessary to stand around and wait, however, I was able to walk through the whole thing once before someone appeared. A bit weird.

In any case, it somehow seemed like the chef was the waiter at the same time, and yet managed to bring both things together quite nicely. Frankly, though, it was a bit surprising, and it felt a bit like there was a lack of personnel. Other than that, the waiter was super friendly and attentive.

All in all, the Bar Brass is definitely a nice place where you can enjoy a meal from a small, but nice menu in a nice atmosphere with professional service. Booking (at least on a Sunday) doesn’t seem to be necessary.
