Beautiful location and exquisite service: Restaurant Schwellenmätteli (24. August 2022)
Since I had to be in Berne anyway, it was time to have a nice lunch. I went for the “beef tatar (spicy, roasted toast, butter)” (CHF 21.50) as a starter, which was quite lovely, but the size of the starter was a bit disappointing. What was great though was the speed and the friendliness of the service. The waiter was super attentive and made sure you would have everything you wanted and needed quite rapidly.
The “fish & chips (pike perch crisps, tartar sauce, French fries)” (CHF 33.50) were actually quite good. The fish crisps were a bit too greasy and so were the French fries – but both were okay in terms of quality. The sauce tartar was good – and the waiter made sure there was enough when I asked for more. And, quite contrary to many places, it was served super quickly when I had asked for more.
The place itself is quite lovely since it’s basically located in a river, or at least very close to one, which makes it a lovely place to relax and enjoy lunch.
All in all, I absolutely enjoyed the Schwellenmätteli which is a nice restaurant with delicious dishes for very fair prices, and has a nice atmosphere.
