The perfect way to try different Sri Lankan curries: Pop-Up Restaurant Loving Lanka (6. September 2022)

| October 17, 2022 | 0 Comments

There is a new pop-restaurant in town until the end of the year – the Loving Lanka. It is basically a quite nice place which serves simple things like different curries and samosas. This is it. Nothing more, nothing less. For the moment, it’s a place where you get your food at the counter, and they prepare it right there and then. The samosas are prepared separately and are subsequently brought to your table. The “samosa (dumpling stuffed with potatoes, carrots, peas, and onions)” (CHF 5.50) was okay, but it was really just some vegetables wrapped in fried dough. Nothing I would necessarily come back for (they are good, though).

More interesting was the main course. I went for the “King’s Curry (rice with chicken curry and all vegan curries from the buffet” (CHF 20.00) which ended up having six different curries in total. Which is kind of perfect to try and find out what you like. I’m not sure what was what, but there were, besides the chicken one, two curries I actually quite liked. Three of them were okay, but nothing I would order again. However, I will definitely return for the other two. What you could also see is that they are still quite new to this, since the portion was fine, but there wasn’t enough rice for the amount of curries they had served.

The place is abstract, modern, and nice – really quite lovely. And so is the staff.

To sum it up, if you are looking for authentic Sri Lankan curry, you should definitely give the Loving Lanka a try. My personal recommendation is to pick a curry instead of going for the King’s Curry, as you get to savour it more. But, I will tell you next time how I enjoyed the other curries.
