A delicious Vietnamese lunch experience with slow service: Restaurant ChuChin (1. October 2022)
What you get at the ChuChin is a really tasty Vietnamese lunch experience – which comes with one downside, which is speed. When I walked in, the place was relatively empty, and I was welcomed in a friendly way and seated right away. Once that had taken place, I was brought the menu, and then the waiting begun. It took me a few minutes to see through the two different menus, and was then, about 10 minutes later, finally able to place my order.
I went for “edamame with chilli flakes” (EUR 5.90) and “Bap Xao Mo Hanh (roasted buttery corn with spring onions and chilli flakes)” (EUR 8.90). Both were great, since I love corn and I absolutely like edamame, but they were also on the rather pricey side of things.
The same was true for the “Dumpling Variation (five different dumplings served in a bamboo basket)” (EUR 16.90) which was quite nice. Frankly, nothing to complain about here, however, the price of almost EUR 3.00 per dumpling seems a bit steep – especially for Germany.
The “Vit Com Chien (crispy duck with fried rice and hoisin sauce)” (EUR 28.90) on the other hand is a very generous portion and also quite tasty. And here, I find the price is quite right as well.
Even the “lemongrass tea with honey” (EUR 5.90) was very enjoyable.
So, you do get a lot of good food for a very fair price. The only thing which was a bit suboptimal was the speed of the service, as there were quite some waiting periods between every course.
