Spitz remains a great place on each and every level: Restaurant Spitz (3. November 2022)
It’s a good six months ago since I’ve last been to the Spitz – and since it’s so central and right next to the main station, it’s a great place to meet. One word of caution though – if you come by car, make sure you come early since they have been scraping all parking lots everywhere in its vicinity, so you might have to do quite a few turns to finally find a place.
Once you’re seated, you’re taken care of pretty much right away and get some “bread and spread” which is nice to start.
I went for the “mandrel prepared in the oven with lemon, parsley, and grilled bread” (CHF 18.00). It was delicious, but it was also a lot. I mean, you get two full mandrels, which is quite a lot. Do not make the mistake to tell them to ask for the main dish in the kitchen right when you get the starter served – they are quicker than you can eat the mandrels.
I went for the “beetroot risotto with caramelized goat cheese, kale, apple, and hazelnuts” (CHF 39.00) which was quite nice and is a much larger portion than it looks like.
The place is lovely, vivid, alive, and yet the tables are a bit apart, which allows for some privacy. The waitress was super lovely, friendly, jovial, and professional at the same time. Really just how service should be – attentive without being in your face either. To sum it up, the Spitz is definitely a place you can and should visit when in Zurich for a nice meal.
