Okayish Italian food in central Poland: Restaurant Spacca Napoli (13. January 2023)
I was told a few times I should try the Spacca Napoli since the place – apparently – serves authentic Italian food. Usually, I would have gone for something authentic Polish, but due to laziness, I wasn’t able to find anything at short notice. Hence, I ended up here. And let’s put it that way. It’s rather authentic, but it’s not comparable to anything you would eat in Italy. I went for the “burrata caprese (burrata cheese D.O.P., cherry tomatoes, basil, drops of pesto, served with focaccia)” (42 PLN) as a starter, which was actually quite enjoyable. I especially liked the small cherry tomatoes, which were cut in four pieces and really added to the dish.
The “fritto misto (zeppole, rice arancini, potato croquettes, pasta croquettes)” (26 PLN) on the other hand were just a bunch of fried things, which were slightly too heavy on the fat side. Not bad, but far from the lightly fried stuff you know from Italy.
I was recommended the “involtini di pollo (chicken roulade with escarole, dry tomatoes and lemon peel, served with baked potatoes)” (54 PLN) to accompany the wine I had picked (Lirica, Primititvo di Manduria, 2019) since the two apparently went so well together. Well, they matched. However, the involtini were way too dry, and way to taste-less (in its literal sense). So, frankly, the main course was quite a disappointment.
The place is buzzing like a proper Italian place, so, from an atmospheric point of view, it’s definitely worth visiting. The staff is friendly, attentive (at least mostly) and makes sure you have everything you need and want. All in all, it’s a decent experience, but it’s very far from exceptional.
