A delicious sushi experience in an Asian style diner: Restaurant Qirin (18. January 2023)

| March 30, 2023 | 0 Comments

I tried to pay the Qirin a visit for quite a while already, but only just finally managed now! The place is basically an optical American diner, but in a more modern, Asian style. A bit weird to describe, but actually quite pleasant when you are seated there. I went for the “spicy tuna roll (tuna, avocado, leek, chilli; 8 pieces)” (CHF 18.80; however, since we both ordered 4 pieces, they charged us CHF 19.60 instead, so twice the four pieces but the eight, although they served it on one plate). It was simple, but nice.

The “crab king (softshell crab, cucumber, asparagus, crab crème)” (CHF 19.80) was nice as well, but definitely a bit on the side of ‘too much at once’. The roll itself is nice and so is the topping, but it feels like a massive ‘on top’, which makes it a bit tricky to eat (and I have a big mouth ;-) ).

Ultimately, I went for the “udon teriyaki (fried wheat noodles with vegetables, teriyaki sauce and Chinese duck breast)” (CHF 28.80), which turned out to be nice. The noodles were delicious, so were the vegetables in the teriyaki sauce, and ultimately also the duck, which was nicely crispy and of decent meat quality.

The service is friendly and attentive. The only element I have to complain about is the fact that they charged us the price for 2 x 4 instead of 8, while they served it as 8. Other than that, the place is nice, the food is good, the prices are quite okay, and you do not need to book in advance since the place is relatively large, but it wasn’t full at all, even on a Wednesday evening.
