Excellent service but mediocre overall: Restaurant SixSeven (20. January 2023)
The SixSeven is an interesting combination, since it’s basically a bar (called ‘Six’) on the 6th floor, and a restaurant (called ‘Seven’) on the 7th floor. It is in thus far nice in terms of atmosphere that you have a view over the city of Luxembourg. However, when we talk about ‘pretty inside’, I must say, the actual interior is not too appealing since it’s a bit too bright, too modern, and the tables are quite close to each other (leading to somewhat missing privacy). Once you’re seated, you get a little amuse bouche, a “salmon tartare ball”, which was okay, but a bit intense in terms of fish flavour.
I went for the “veal tartare (veal tartare, Parmesan, egg yolk, roots)” (EUR 29.00) to get started, and I must say, I was positively surprised, since it actually turned out to be quite delicious. Personally, I wouldn’t have needed the sweet potato chips, but it still turned out to be quite tasty all in all.
As a main, I went for the “lamb (saddle of lamb in salt crust, black kale, laurel, lemon confit, 25-year-old balsamic)” (EUR 36.00) and that was comparatively disappointing since the lamb was somewhat lacking flavour, and the laurel on top didn’t really add to the whole thing. So, as tasty as the starter was, as disappointed I was by the main.
The ‘mashed potatoes’ (which felt more like a potato cream) were quite okay – I liked the buttery texture, however, it could have been salted a tiny bit more.
One thing which was kind of outstanding were the friendly and attentive staff – everyone was very welcoming, friendly, helpful, and swift. Just a very comfortable, professional service experience. So, kudos to the staff. For the rest, not sure, I would visit the place again.
